Barack Obama wint Nobelprijs voor de Vrede

Niet zanger Bono van U2 of de Zimbabwaanse premier Morgan Tsvangirai, maar de Amerikaanse president Barack Obama heeft de Nobelprijs voor de Vrede gewonnen.

Verrassend: Obama wint Nobelprijs

Dat heeft het Nobelcomité vandaag bekendgemaakt in de Noorse hoofdstad Oslo.

Diplomatie
De Amerikaanse president krijgt de onderscheiding voor zijn 'buitengewone inspanningen om de internationale diplomatie en samenwerking tussen volkeren te versterken'.

Obama is nog geen jaar president van Amerika. Hij stond op een lijst met 205 genomineerden. Onder anderen Bono (voorman van de band U2) en premier Morgan Tsvangirai van Zimbabwe werden 'genoemd' als eventuele winnaars.

Klimaatgoeroe
In 2007 won Obama's land-  en partijgenoot Al Gore de prijs. De klimaatgoeroe kreeg de onderscheiding toen voor zijn inspanningen voor een 'groene wereld'.

Vorig jaar kreeg de Fin Martti Ahtisaari de prijs, voor zijn 'grote inspanningen om over verschillende continenten en over meer dan drie decennia internationale conflicten op te lossen'.
